“Beauty With a Purpose”

I believe that the purpose of human life is to serve, show compassion and the wish to help others.

My passion for helping others began at the age of 7 when my school gave us the task to sell Christmas themed postage stamps to raise funds to help those in need. I sold over 100 stamps with the help of my family and friends.

Since then I have volunteered and contributed to many important causes on my island.

Becoming Miss Aruba World gave me the opportunity to use my abilities to make valuable and lasting contributions to help, improve and most importantly change children’s lives in the Aruban community.

Since Aruba is a small island, we have the tendency to ignore or to underestimate social problems. This gave me the will and eagerness to be part of a very special cause and to try my utmost best to make a change. A change that would not only impact the lives of children and will also have enough substance to impact lives of my island’s future generations.

This is the main reason I chose to work with the “ Sea Bunita, Sea bo mes” (Be Beautiful, Be yourself”) foundation.

“Sea Bunita, Sea Bo Mes” foundation was founded on the 2nd of September of this year and its main purpose is to include and intergrade children with special needs in the Aruban community since they barely get any attention.

I am very proud and humbled to be able to be the voice of this foundation and most importantly, the voice of the many children with special needs that need to be heard.

I have always had the privilege of having a dignified education to be able to develop my skills. Children with special needs on my island only dream of having this privilege even though it is their right to. Hearing about this situation was both heartbreaking and unacceptable for me.

I immediately sat down with the director of the “ Sea Bunita, Sea Bo Mes” (Be Beautiful, Be yourself) foundation to first of all hear about her story and afterwards deliberate about possible solutions to this problem. We came to the conclusion that the first step that needed to be done to be able to help these children was to buy a building, a much needed building that will serve as a school in order to provide these children with a proper and dignified education.

The costs of buying a building are extremely high. This was the main reason why I used the platform provided by the Miss Aruba foundation (Star Promotion) to organize a family day fundraising event to generate funds to help with the costs of buying the building. I wanted my event to not only generate funds for the foundation, but to also show the Aruban community that these children are capable of doing anything.

Together with my team, we planned a fun filled day with various events that were presented by children in special needs. From dancing and singing to painting and playing soccer; it was truly inspiring.

With the help of the private sector, we received sponsorship items that we were able to sell and raffle to generate funds. Furthermore, we received various donations from people whom were deeply touched by our cause.

We raised a substantial amount of money that will be destined and essential for the building.

I am very thankful to the Aruban community for their help and support into making my event a huge success.

Although I wanted to do much more, I first wanted to ensure that these children could count on the support of the government.

I had a great meeting with the Minister of Social Affairs, Youth and Labor, Sr. drs. Paul Croes. We talked about the possibility for the foundation to receive yearly monetary support from the government and the steps that needs to be taken to secure this possibility.

I am proud to say that we are currently working on the necessary paperwork to insure the help of the government for this important cause.

Additionally, together with famous Aruban artists, we are creating a cd production that will be dedicated to children with special needs. This production will be sold within the Aruban community and all funds will be destined to the foundation.

We have already achieved so many great things for these children together and I can assure that I will not stop until this project is successfully completed.

Today, I am proud to say that I am not only a beauty with a purpose, but I am a beauty that has the required strength and mindset to be able to finish this amazing project to provide and ensure a dignified education for children with special needs.

My purpose is to continue to help others, especially children on a global scale, by using the beauty with a purpose legacy to continue leading by example.
