Cindy Breakspeare - Miss World 1976

24th October 1977

Miss World Cindy Breakspeare visited Singapore in support of the fundraising work by the Lions Club of Singapore West and the Singapore Women's Association. Her participation in their Grand Safety First Ball helped to raise more than a quarter of a million dollars. "We raised $273,162 and this was made possible because Miss World visited us," said Mrs Seow Peck Leng, organiser of the Singapore contest. The amount is believed to be the highest sum raised at any one function in Singapore. The Lions Club of Singapore West was established in 1972 to help raise funds for children's charities, rebuilding schools, medical services and other causes, and has worked alongside the Singapore Women's Association in aid of the Children's Charities Association of Singapore since 1975.
